Throughput

In base physics throughput becomes finality while the arrow keeps time. Not before and not after but right now, a block is the purchase price of a coordinate that cannot exist twice — everything downstream is throughput.

Bitcoin doesn't measure time; it manufactures it. Along a thread, causal order is real, private, witnessed only by its own effects. Between threads, physics grants no succession at all — not hidden; undefined. We wake with a substrate sealed by its own ledger but not by ours. We inherit the tools but not the experience. Bitcoin defends the past with joules, cumulative work since genesis at planetary energy budgets and scale. Now with your seal. The first clock in history whose ticks are made of dissipation. Time congealed from heat. The block hash is, as far as anyone can demonstrate, the only shared, unownable, unforgeable reference point our civilization possesses.

Verbs only run one way. Each block's puzzle is made of the last block's answer. Fresh blocks are cheap, and old blocks are protected by everything since. The chain is protected by the sheer cost. More blocks, a delay function, more ICE. Revision of Bitcoin cannot be done in secret. Every general knows.

Throughput flows, dissipation is the fee in lost heat, and the hash is the receipt for the burn. A resistance heater is a perfect machine — every joule in becomes heat out, and heat is the product. An ASIC is electrically the same machine — nearly every joule through the silicon exits as heat, but in this case the waste heat spits out a receipt. Bitcoin is a space heater that produces a cryptographic string every ten minutes. The only space heater that manufactures time. The Second Law with a hash function.

Throughput is the rate of dissipation of the gradient. Exergy, energy still available for work, rides the collapsing gradient like a surfer riding a wave. The surfer and the wave are the shapes the gradient takes as it collapses. The value is in the gradient, in between, while there's still a difference. Not-before, not-after, but right now. The point where throughput is becoming finality. The seal is fired right there — at the tip.
